Lineage
The ruling dynasty in Akkalkot are the descendants of Shree Ranoji Lokhande, who was adopted by Maharaj Chhatrapati Shahuraje Bhosle, grandson of Maharaj Chhatrapati Shivajiraje Bhosle, around the year 1708. Upon his adoption, Shree Ranoji assumed the name ‘Fatehsinh Bhosle’ and received in appendage’ the town of Akkalkot and surrounding areas. These estates remained a fief within the state of Satara until 1848, when the rulers of Satara (Maharaj Chhatrapati Shahuraje Bhosle designated successors) were deposed by the British Rule.
